Addressing the Digital Gap in Elderly Care
Måna Care AB aims to address the growing digital gap between the elderly population and available caregivers. According to the World Health Organization's 2019 report on aging, by 2030, the ratio of elderly individuals to eligible caregivers will reach 40:1 in the U.S. and Europe and 20:1 globally. Recognizing this pressing challenge, Måna Care's co-founders, Jeff DeAngelis and Anders Reisch, set out to develop a solution that creates a force-multiplying caregiving capability, allowing caregivers to reach more elderly clients effectively.
Throughout this journey, Måna Care has discovered that many elderly and cognitively challenged individuals find current technology intimidating and confusing, making it difficult for them to communicate with caregivers and family members. This disconnect often leads to feelings of isolation and exclusion. Måna Care’s mission is to inspire digital inclusion among these communities by integrating various technology platforms into a single, intuitive interface with one-touch features, helping clients continue living independent lives.
Leveraging HiveMQ Cloud for Real-Time Connectivity
The Måna Digital Assistant is a 14” tablet-based platform designed to reside in the homes of clients to allow them to connect with their caregivers and family members securely and intuitively through a closed-loop and subscription-based Dashboard App on their PC, Android, or Apple devices.
At the heart of the Måna platform is a blended set of technologies, including Generative AI, Industrial IoT, and MQTT. After exploring multiple MQTT service providers, Måna Care selected HiveMQ Cloud for its scalability, which supports a smooth transition from development to production. HiveMQ Cloud also provides Måna Care with a strategic collaboration, leveraging an understanding of the platform’s Quality of Service (QoS) model to ensure dependable 24/7 global connectivity. This allows Måna Care to meet its goal of creating a reliable, real-time communication channel between elderly clients and their caregivers.
HiveMQ’s MQTT platform allows Måna Care to securely connect clients with a Trusted Advisor group of up to four people. The platform also offers the flexibility to enable a single trusted advisor to communicate with multiple clients, supporting various caregiving models. HiveMQ’s Cloud platform meets Måna Care’s requirements for both reliability and scalability, essential for handling sensitive communications on a global scale.
Improving Care Quality and Promoting Digital Inclusion
With HiveMQ Cloud, professional caregivers can deliver Care-On-Demand services, improving the quality of care while reducing the time needed for administrative tasks. The platform simplifies communication, easing the burden of sharing client updates, observations, and needs among family members. Måna Care’s intuitive user interface also allows elderly and cognitively challenged clients to participate in social networking, eliminating feelings of isolation and promoting independence.
Måna Care’s age tech-focused solution offers families peace of mind, knowing their elderly loved ones are safe and connected. The Måna Digital Assistant powered by HiveMQ provides a range of capabilities, including text-to-speech messaging, voice messaging, picture and video sharing, voice and video calls, wellness checks, activity monitoring with safety cameras, audio and visual alerts, voice-activated commands, Generative AI assistants, on-the-fly language translation, weather forecasts, calendars with tracked activities, and “My Måna,” a personalized memory helper.
